Aromatherapy

Aromatic essential oils diluted in carrier oil are applied to the body for the easement of many, many ailments of both mind, body and soul. I use organic oils wherever possible, the essential oils being sourced from France. For example, I use high-altitude lavender as it has different properties to the common or garden lavender, and oils are also matched to your preferences as well as your clinical needs wherever possible.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils distilled from plants.
The essential oils are most often applied during massage, where they are used suitably diluted in a carrier oil chosen to enhance their properties; or as a steam inhalation, a hot or cold compress, or mixed in a cream or lotion for home use between treatments.

Flowers, buds, leaves, twigs and resinous substances are all used to make essential oils, taken from the small garden plants such as lavender to the towering cedarwood tree, using all Nature's bounty to create healing for our symptoms.

Plants from all over the world are used, and every continent is represented, so essential oils are drawing on healing from all parts of the earth, bringing it together in one treatment specific to you.

Flower oils and oils from plants that we traditionally know as garden flowers or culinary herbs give us the most easily recognized aromas, the heady scents of rose, jasmine and neroli, the lighter smells of lavender and sweet orange, the fresher, greener scents of basil, rosemary, thyme and coriander. The resinous sandalwood, benzoin (vanilla scented!) and rosewood give us the deeper scents, exotic and warm.

Aromatherapy is an art, a science and an intuitive practice. The art is in choosing and blending several oils together to make a synergistic mix, that is, a mixture where the end result is rather more powerful then could be expected from the properties of its individual components. A mix where the oils reflect the seasons of the year and the prevailing weather, bringing sunshine to dark days, or warmth to cold bones, combining together to make a delicious scent.

The science is in comparing the oil's properties, chemical structure and nature to the client's symptoms and producing a healing symphony to help relieve many common ailments and symptoms.

The intuition is in knowing how to blend for each and every client on each and every occasion - what was 'right' last time may now have changed, and so the types of oils, dilution or application must change to meet the client's need.

Using more than 40 different essential oils and several carrier oils, there is a treatment opportunity for every person.
